New president at Q-Sense AB
Ted Ternander has taken over as the new president of Biolin's wholly-owned subsidiary, Q-Sense. Ted is 48, has a financial education and joins the company from Got-a-Gene AB, a biotechnology company in Göteborg focusing on the development of advanced gene therapy relating to diseases such as cancer and AIDS, where Ted was the company president.
Ted has previously held a number of leading positions in the pharmaceutical industry, first and foremost at Astra and subsequently at AstraZeneca, prior to which he also worked at Schering-Plough. Ted has been primarily involved with marketing and sales and, when he was president of Astra's subsidiary in Poland, he was responsible for establishing and developing Polish operations from the start. He has also worked in business development and was responsible for the business intelligence unit at AstraZeneca in Sweden.
"This feels like an incredibly exciting challenge and Q-Sense is a growth company with an interesting technology that has already established itself on the global market and is accepted by well known opinion leaders. The potential is impressive and we have a strong product offer for our customers, which we are planning to develop further with a view to offering new applications and reaching new customer groups. My principal task now will be to take Q-Sense to a new level by increasing sales and creating a positive result in the company," says Ted, commenting on his new job.
"We are delighted to have recruited Ted as the president of Q-Sense. With his broad-based commercial background, we believe that he can contribute to the development of Q-Sense's business. Future developments will focus on the continued successful prospecting of academic customers, but they will also involve using new applications for QCM-D technology to reach industrial customers where the volumes are greater than those in the academic segment. In this context, we feel that Ted's extensive experience of the pharmaceutical industry will be of special value, as it potentially represents one of the most important industrial customer groups," says Per Spångberg, president of Biolin.
Q-Sense's technology originates from the Chalmers University of Technology in Göteborg and the company was founded in 1996 with the patented QCM-D technology as its base. Until 1999, interest focused on technological and product development, while commercialisation began in 2000. Since then, Q-Sense has successfully sold instruments and sensors to academic and industrial customers all over the world and is now established in different research disciplines in some 20 countries in Asia, Europe and North America.
