Henk Busscher, Gröningen University largeProfessor Henk Busscher, giving a talk at the QCM-D Scientific World Tour in Bensheim, Germany in September 2011:

The title of your talk for the QCM-D Scientific World Tour 2011 is Interfacial re-arrangement in initial microbial adhesion to surfaces. Could you describe how this is related to your research in general and tell something about your projects at the moment?

"Our main goal is to understand how microorganisms adhere to surfaces, with an aim to prevent biomaterial-related infections in medicine," Professor Busscher says.

Why is this type of research interesting to you personally?

"For me it is interesting to work in a cross-road of disciplines".

How does your research fit into a bigger context?

"Biomaterials are indespensable in modern medicine for the restoration of function, while infection is the number one reason for the failure of biomaterial implants and devices," says Professor Busscher.
